Coleville @ Round Mountain: Coming off their first win against a 2A opponent, Round Mountain was poised to take on the visiting Wolves. Coleville had other ideas, as Junior Jason Peters went to the air for three scores and jumped on the Knights with a quick 22-0 lead at the end of 1 quarter.

On the Wolves first drive of the second half, they fumbled and James Browning scooped the loose ball and returned it 22 yards for a score. After converting the PAT, the Knights found themselves within 4 points of the lead.

Eureka would cut the lead in half on a 15 yard touchdown completion from Trent Gordan to Clayton Souza and a good PAT. Their momentum was short lived as Shawn Pearson returned the ensuing kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown. The Leopards would take a 24-8 lead at the half.

Coming out of the break, Wells began the quarter the way they ended the first half. This time it was James Cromie with a 73 yard kickoff return for the score. This was the third kickoff returned for a touchdown against the Vandals in two weeks.

Coach Higbee added,”Laughlin came out and hit us hard, but couldn’t sustain it.” The Panthers didn’t get on the score board until 4:37 of the first quarter when Sophomore Jensen Jones scored from 6 yards out. Pahrump @ Mountain View: In the first game for both teams in their new divisions, 4A and 2A respectively, the Pahrump Trojans came away with their first win since 2006, 23-18.

Making their 11-man debut, the Saints of Mountain View were leading 18-17 with just over two minutes left when Pahrump took over on downs at their 30.  Coach Ray LaBeouf switched out of the 4-4 defense that had been bending the whole game, but containing Pahrump for the most part.  “I figured a 3-4 front would pretty much force them to keep running and we would contain the run and burn the clock. I take the blame for the loss. It was my coaching error,” said Coach LaBeouf. ”My senior captain, our MLB Billy Paddack, had even called a timeout because he thought we only had 10 on the field when he saw the 3 down lineman in front of him.”

The Trojans fullback Ande Floyd took off on a 58-yard run on their first play, then Pahrump scored with 1:09 left in the game.

The Saints had a chance on the ensuing drive after QB Raymond Velarde hit Tanner Peterson on a 40-yard pass to get down to Pahrump’s 30.  Velarde was then sacked, allowing the clock to run down rapidly.  He then hit Nate Swingle on a 15-yard pass, but the clock ran out before they could get another play off.

Game notes: Paddack 14 tackles (7 solo)…Velarde 10 of 16 for 177 yards, 1 touchdown, 25 yds rushing and 13 tackles.  Peterson 97 yards receiving.  Cortland LeBoeuf led rushing with 48 yards on 4 carries.  Alex Watson had a 29-yard TD run and Mark Allen had a 10-yard TD run.   contributed by Ray LaBoeuf
